September 2008
Dear Friends of
Putney Books,
I want to share some exciting news! I've decided to take on the
challenge of re-opening a bookstore in Putney. Everyone I talk to is
so supportive of this happening. Through generous contributions from
a number of community families and support from the Preservation
Trust of Vermont, I have come to believe that this dream can be
realized. We have an opportunity to regain some of the vibrant sense
of community that our wonderful little town needs.
I really appreciate the encouragement and support I have gotten over
the past several weeks! The number of people who have come to
me and offered words of hope and well wishes has given me tremendous
joy and a true feeling of strength. I have been so astonished and
moved by the generous offers of time, energy and books.
Our village center has had a hard year. First, Heartstone
Books closed, and then the fire at the General Store. Both places
provided a means of connection and support for the members of our
community.
Re-opening an independent
bookstore will not be easy, but I think that, together, we can make
it a success. The support that has already been committed will give
us a real chance to succeed. As a "community supported
enterprise", I know we can make this work.
One of the ways the community can help is by purchasing Community
Supported Bookstore Certificates. I have enclosed information about
how that would work.
I appreciate your consideration and hope to see you often when
Putney Books opens.
Sincerely,
Sarah
