Annual Conference
Each
spring, the Preservation Trust in partnership with the Vermont
Division for Historic Preservation hosts a statewide Historic
Preservation Conference. Participants come from all over the
state to hear professional presenters and participate in hands-on
workshops and guided tours of local historic sites.
Field
Service Program
The
Vermont Preservation Field Services program is a
partnership of the Preservation Trust of Vermont and the National
Trust for Historic Preservation. Our two staff people provide guidance to individuals and
organization involved in historic preservation projects. Besides
direct technical assistance from the Field Service Reps, the
program offers small Project
Development Grants up to $500 for consultants to bring
specialized skills to a project.
Preservation
Grants
Preservation Grants are made possible with funding from the
Freeman Foundation. Preservation Grants are available
to non-profit organizations for rehabilitating historic buildings.
These grants have helped local groups save and use a variety of
special places, from the Haskell Opera House in Derby Line to the
Vermont Arts Exchange in North Bennington. Libraries, art
spaces, museums, educational facilities, community meeting places,
affordable housing, and churches all benefited.
Robert
Sincerbeaux Funds
Robert
Sincerbeaux was our first benefactor and understood that people all
around Vermont are passionate about their communities,
countryside, and special places.
Funds from the Robert Sincerbeaux Fund up to $500 are available through
the Preservation Trust of Vermont and National Trust for Historic
Preservation Field Services Program. The 1:1 matching grants are
available to municipalities and non-profit organizations for
hiring consultants to provide specialized assistance for a
preservation project.
Community
Store Initiative
In partnership with the
Vermont Country Store, we established the Local
Storekeeper Award program as a way to recognize the valuable
contributions storekeepers like you provide to your communities.
The program was started as part of the Vermont Country Store's
50th Anniversary...it was part of Lyman Orton's way of saying
"Thank You" to Vermont from his company's success. The
program recognized 43 storekeepers for their important work. It
also was a great way to tell Vermonters how important your stores
are to their respective communities.
We have now embarked on a new
initiative in partnership with the Vermont Country Store. Our
program includes four parts: Community Store Advisors, Storekeeper
Retreat, Community Store Transitions, and Financial Support for
New Solutions...
Preservation
Awards
Since 1982, The Preservation Trust of Vermont
has recognized outstanding contributions in the field of historic
preservation. Awards are presented to the individuals and
organizations who have made special contributions in preserving
Vermont's historic architecture.
Grand
Isle Lake House
We
undertook our most ambitious single project ever in 1998 -- the
preservation of the last remaining turn-of-the-century hotel on
Lake Champlain and one of only a few left in Vermont. In the
process we also protected nearly a half-mile of Lake Champlain
shoreline.
Retreat
Program
Every
summer and fall, the Preservation Trust offers overnight retreats
at the Grand Isle Lake House for people working on preservation
projects. The whole idea is to bring people together from around the state who are working on similar kinds of projects in order to take advantage of group experience and thinking. The goal is to boost projects along their timeline by strategically identifying resources, solving problems, garnering peer support, and generating self-confidence and momentum.
Easement Program
The Preservation Trust holds historic preservation easements on
historic buildings and archaeological sites throughout
Vermont. Many are co-held with the Vermont Housing and
Conservation Board and the Vermont Land Trust. For more
information about this program, contact our Stewardship
Coordinator Meg Campbell meg@ptvermont.org.
